I am pleased to post and publicize this guest blog, written by Lori Bergenstock:
We have been praying Isaiah 64:1 as our One Prayer for Upper Room Community Church over the past several weeks. We are asking God to tear open the heavens and come down. I wondered as I prayed those words a few days ago if I really believe He would break open the heavens and come down. You know what I mean? I believe it in my We We have been praying Isaiah 64:1 -- "Oh that you would burst forth from heaven and come down" -- as our One Prayer for Upper Room Community Church over the past several weeks. We are asking God to tear open the heavens and come down. I wondered as I prayed those words a few days ago if I really believe He would break open the heavens and come down. You know what I mean? I believe it in my head.head. I know He can break into situations and He can do more than we can hope, dream or imagine, but do I BELIEVE it. Do I have faith that if we cry out He will break into our church, our community, our families, our nation? As I continue to pray this prayer I am asking God to increase my faith. And to help me in my unbelief.
On Friday, September 23 the women of our community have an opportunity to come together with hundreds of thousands of women all over the country and cry out to God to tear open the heavens and come down. The Cry Out 16 simulcast is not just another Christian event with speakers and upbeat Christian music. It is a time to get on our knees before the Lord and cry out to Him to do what only He can do. What could be more vital at this critical time, than for women to get on their knees—together—to cry out to the Lord for mercy and intervention in our world, our nation, our churches, our cities, and our homes?
The more I find out about this night, the more I am convinced that it is ALL about God and knowing that we truly can do nothing without Him. What could God do with thousands of women surrendered to His call and to His purpose? What might happen if we begin to cry out and really desire for His will, not our own? Let’s not only pray for God to do amazing things, let’s spend so much time on our knees that we actually begin to believe it. Personally I can’t wait for this opportunity to pray for God’s glory and for the good of our world.
Upper Room Community Church is a regional host site for this prayer simulcast. We are expecting women from all over the foothills and Sacramento to join with us to Cry Out with other women for God to do what only He can do. I believe that the key to knowing that God can and will tear open the heavens and come down into the earthly situations where he is so desperately needed is to spend time seeking Him in prayer and in His word. This night is all about surrendering to Him.
