“Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I’m here inviting outsiders, not insiders—an invitation to a changed life, changed inside out.”
— Luke 5:32

You can find Gene preaching on Sunday mornings, leading Bible study, conducting pastoral care in local coffee shops. He likes Depoe Bay and Flour Garden.

Gene holds a doctor of ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary with specialities in spiritual formation. Gene graduated with a bachelors of arts (religion) from Warner Pacific College in 1979 and finished a masters degree in divinity at Asbury Theological Seminary in 1985.

Gene is married to Lorri Maynard. The two live in Auburn, CA and have three children and two grandchildren.

WHY DO YOU WORK IN MINISTRY?

I love a church that has bent back and dirty hands because it has been out in on the streets all day ministering to people and to the community. I love a church that is obsessed not with power but with serving those who live on the edge of culture. I love a church that isn't trying to build a church for itself, but for those who are outside of church.

I love a church that is moored to the ways of Jesus as a walk-around way of life and invites people to live the with-Jesus life today.
